Mission and vision

The Ismael Foundation works with all kinds of Reformed denominations in the Netherlands. It focuses on the spiritual needs of the Arabic-speaking peoples in Muslim countries in the Middle East, where Christians are only tolerated or even persecuted.

The name of the Ismael Foundation refers to Gen. 17:18: And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!  The foundation works in the belief that Abraham’s prayer will also be spiritually fulfilled to the Arabic-speaking peoples of the Middle East.

Objective

The purpose of the Ismael Foundation is to:

  • Initiate or support projects to win the Muslim neighbor in the Arab world for Christ;
  • Support Christian congregations and pastors in the Arab world in their need;
  • Inform Christians from all Reformed denominations in the Netherlands about the lives, gatherings, and sufferings of brothers and sisters in the Arab-speaking Muslim world so that they may have a place in their prayers and their hearts.

While we depend on God’s blessing, we initiate various projects to realize these goals.

Motivation

Rev. W. Visscher, chairman of the Ismael Foundation: “For the Arab world, there are still Biblical promises. For example, Isaiah 19: 24 and 25 says: In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land: Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel Mine inheritance. From that promise and perspective, the Ismael Foundation is committed to thwe growth of the Church in the heartlands of Islam!”
